"World Governance Asymmetries: Regional Points of View from Europe and Latin America"

organized by the Working Group on Europe and Latin America

In accordance with the general theme of the conference, the Working Group will focus on issues which are of major importance for world governance, partnerships and sustainable development. In the special context of Europe-Latin American relations following themes have emerged as paramount in recent years:

Trade relations with special attention to agriculture and energy;
Migrations of human capital and their counterpart of remittance transfers, giving special emphasis to gender issues,
Regional integration processes in both continents/differences and similarities/ the relationship between the EU and Latin American integration entities like MERCOSUR, CAN, MCAC, etc).

All these processes are embedded in a world system characterised by asymmetrical positions and relations between continents and countries, in many ways incapable of monitoring trends that move themselves on a global scale according to particular logics.

Papers should enlighten the causes and consequences of these processes. They should also ideally assess the importance of defining methodologies and concepts for a better understanding of trends and tensions in and between Europe and Latin America.
