Organisers: Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique pour l'Etude de la Mondialisation et du Développement, GEMDEV, Paris, in co-operation with CIRAD, CERI, various NGO's (Coordination Sud) and policy makers (DGCID)

Chair: : Jean-Jacques Gabas , GEMDEV Paris, France

Speakers:

Henri Rouillé d'Orfeuil , Coordination Sud, France
Jean Feyder , Director General, Ministry of Development Co-operation and Humanitarian Affairs, Luxembourg

Abstract:
The workshop will be structured following three directions:
1- The growing straddling of regulation mechanisms at various levels and of various kind (market and non market) in the formation of international agricultural prices.

2-Europe has specific skills and history in the field of market regulation, including those EU-ACP relationships. What lessons could be learnt for a future European development co-operation policy? What kind of stabilisation mechanisms should and could be implemented?

3-There is a growing concern of development actors, in the North and in the South, for the situation of peasants living in Low Developed Countries. Improving their situation might be dependent on the definition of stable and profitable prices.
