Abstract:
While harmonisation and effectiveness remain key words in the European development debate little systematic attention has been paid to bilateral interests of individual donor countries. Does the present architecture of European development co-operation represent an outdated mix of historical preferences, geopolitical perceptions and bilateral ("national") national interests involving high political and economic costs? The workshop aims at identifying and openly address the bilateral ("national") policies of EU member states (e.g. France's policies in Togo, GB in Sierra Leone etc.) thus aiming at providing an analytical base for a realistic stock-taking.
