Abstract:

Within the general topic of "Insecurity and development" , the question of fluctuations and of the existence of poverty traps is of great relevance. How are "sustainable" dynamics of insecurity to be analysed ? We think that insecurity is not only a question of the short run (linked e.g. to negative shocks), to be analysed on an individual basis, but that it is also a long run process involving macro-dynamics.

The workshop will be focused on lessons from Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP) long run perspectives. We would like to collect contributions on the interlinks between fluctuations and poverty traps in the long run growth dynamics of Least Developed Countries (LDC). With the substitution of the traditional IBW programs by PRSPs, and its focus on poverty reduction, the horizon of time is logically much longer. From an applied research perspective, is there any coherence between the different horizons of time considered in these poverty reduction policies for LDCs ?

Stressing the macroeconomics' dynamics of the long run, and questioning time consistency of poverty reduction strategy, this workshop will be oriented towards seldom explored fields of poverty reduction policies in LDCs.

Main topics :

  • Analysis of long run dynamics in LDCs (Specialisation, debt, fluctuations,…)
  • Case studies of PRSPs.
  • Time consistency analysis of poverty reduction strategy.
