This module is part of the Master programme on Governance and Development in Sub-Sahara Africa, but it can also be followed separately. It is scheduled for the period April-May 2008.
During a 5-week training programme, scholars and development practitioners will gain and exchange deeper insights into the political economy dynamics of the Great Lakes region. The overall programme consists of the following four units: Unit 1: Historical and anthropological trajectories: Setting the stage; Unit 2: In the eye of the storm: External and internal shocks; Unit 3: Policies and conditions for inclusive development; Unit 4. -Applicants must hold a university degree of at least 4 years of study in Social Sciences (Economics, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, or related disciplines).
-They must have professional experience in or about the Great Lakes region.
-They must be proficient in English. | | Admission requirements | -Applicants must hold a university degree of at least 4 years of study in Social Sciences (Economics, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations or related disciplines). Applicants who hold a Bachelor’s degree of only 3 years of study must show very strong and relevant professional experience and/or have successfully completed supplementary training. Only applicants with excellent academic records will be accepted.
-Applicants must be able to demonstrate acquaintance with basic quantitative and qualitative social science research methods and be able to read scientific publications in the field of development studies, especially in the area of the political economy of state formation, conflict and reconstruction.
-Applicants must be proficient in English. Applicants who received their university education in English must provide an official certificate stating that the language of instruction was English. Applicants whose university studies were not completed in English must submit one of the following test results:
-TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): minimum score of 550 for paper-based test, or 213 for computer-based test, or 79-80 for internet-based test. Information about this test is available on www.toefl.org
-IELTS (International English Language Testing System): minimum score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 for each part.
